New Mexico Resident Merit Scholarships
New Mexico residents entering WNMU as first-time freshmen can earn a four-year merit scholarship package based on high school GPA and ACT or SAT score. Every package covers full in-state tuition and applicable fees for 15–18 credits per semester, plus a yearly housing scholarship for students living in WNMU housing.
Deadlines for New Mexico residents
- Apply to WNMU by December 1
- Submit preliminary high school transcripts by March 1
- Submit ACT or SAT scores by March 1

Non-resident merit packages provide out-of-state tuition assistance and a housing scholarship (WNMU housing only).
Transfer students
Transferring from another New Mexico college
- If you received state scholarship aid, such as the Opportunity or Lottery Scholarship, at any New Mexico college, you must provide a New Mexico Scholarship Transfer Transcript (NMSTT) form (PDF) from each of those schools.
- Your state scholarship will not be released until we receive all NMSTT forms. In some cases the NMSTT requirement may be waived; ask your financial aid counselor.
- Send official transcripts to the Office of Admissions. For state scholarship purposes, the Office of Financial Aid can accept unofficial transcripts to determine eligibility.
Non-Resident Transfer Scholarship
Out-of-state transfer students with a strong college record can receive full out-of-state tuition plus a housing scholarship.
To qualify
- Apply to WNMU by December 1
- Submit all college transcripts by March 1
- Have at least 60 transferable credit hours or an associate degree (AA/AS)
- Have a 3.75 cumulative college GPA
What it covers
- Full out-of-state tuition for 15–18 credits per semester. This includes the Colorado, El Paso, Arizona, Competitive or other tuition award or waiver.
- $2,000 per year housing scholarship for students living in on-campus housing and working toward a first bachelor’s degree
